Jeju Samdasoo, in collaboration with SK Chemicals, has succeeded in producing the country's first 'circular chemical recycling PET (CR-PET)' made solely from PET bottles collected in Jeju. According to the company, recycled PET can be used as a food container under the Food Sanitation Act, and its safety as a food contact container is maintained even after repeated recycling.
In this way, Jeju Samdasoo is strengthening its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management through activities aimed at reducing plastic. Previously, Jeju Development Corporation, which produces and manufactures Jeju Samdasoo, announced its eco-friendly management vision called the 'Green Whole Process' in 2021, integrating eco-friendly management throughout the product lifecycle from production, distribution, collection, to recycling. A representative example is the launch of the label-free product 'Jeju Samdasoo Green.' Additionally, they have established a step-by-step roadmap to reduce plastic usage by 25% by 2025 compared to 2020, and by 50% by 2030.
Baek Kyung-hoon, president of Jeju Development Corporation, stated, "We will continue to take responsibility as a leader in the drinking water industry and strive to ensure the market grows in an eco-friendly direction."
