The 'AI Technology Open Workshop 2023' was held on the 21st at the UNIST Main Administration Building Auditorium.
The event was attended by a total of nine AI experts from Korea and abroad, as well as UNIST professors, who introduced the latest trends in AI technology and UNIST's research achievements. More than 300 participants, including representatives from 21 companies and institutions, faculty members, researchers, and students, also attended to listen to their lectures.
The workshop featured keynote speeches by international scholars, presentations of research achievements by professors from the UNIST Graduate School of AI, special lectures by domestic experts, and panel discussions between attendees and experts.
In the keynote speeches, Professor Jean Oh from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in the United States and Dr. Emtiyaz Khan, leader of the Advanced Intelligence Project Team at RIKEN, Japan's top national research institute, presented the latest technologies in robotics AI and adaptive AI fields.
Domestically, Yoon Sangdoo, head of Naver AI Lab, Lim Woohyeong, executive director of LG AI Research, and Shin Dongju, CEO of AI semiconductor design company Mobilint, delivered special lectures.
Yoon Sangdoo and Lim Woohyeong gave lectures on AI visual recognition technology and the latest AI business models, respectively. Shin Dongju of Mobilint introduced 'Understanding AI Semiconductors: Domestic and International Trends.'
Professors Baek Seungryeol, Yoo Jaejun, Kim Jisoo, and Joo Kyungdon from the UNIST Graduate School of AI presented their latest research achievements.
Vice President Lee Jaeyong said, "It is meaningful to have a place to share the latest research results in the rapidly advancing field of AI at an unimaginable speed," and added, "I hope the UNIST AI Workshop will advance to become a 'global academic conference' leading AI technology worldwide."
Shim Jaeyoung, dean of the Graduate School of AI, which hosted the event, said, "The UNIST Graduate School of AI has grown and developed rapidly in a short period," and added, "We will continue to strengthen the AI capabilities of the region and the nation through an open academic conference involving both academia and industry."
Since selecting AI as a key research area in 2019, UNIST has been focusing on advanced technology development and nurturing core AI talents through initiatives such as the Graduate School of AI, the regional industry innovation hub 'AI Innovation Park,' and the industry workforce education program 'AI Novatus Academia.'
The UNIST AI Technology Open Workshop is in its third year this year and was first launched in 2021 to build an AI innovation ecosystem in the region and accelerate related industrial innovation.
