"Its Time to End" Husband Thought to Have Committed Suicide... Found in Another Country 10 Years Later

Wife Requests Missing Person Search TV Program
Found Living a New Life Working in Greece

An Italian family man who left behind a suicide note saying "Now it's time to end it" and suddenly disappeared was found alive and well in Greece after 10 years.

According to Italian daily Corriere della Sera and others on the 22nd (local time), Adamo Guerra (then 45), a household goods salesman, suddenly vanished on July 7, 2013, leaving only three letters implying an extreme choice at his home in Imola, Emilia-Romagna, northern Italy.

The letters were addressed respectively to his parents, colleagues, and his wife, Rafaella Borgi. The letters contained messages such as "I don't want to hurt your heart, but unfortunately now it's time to end it," and "I borrowed money from dangerous people, and the situation has worsened. I don't want to cause problems for the family."

After Guerra's car was found at the port of Ancona in Marche, central Italy, investigators concluded that he had taken his own life by throwing himself into the sea due to financial difficulties, and the 2014 Guerra disappearance case was closed as a suicide.

His wife Borgi could not easily accept that her usually kind and attentive husband had abandoned their two young daughters (then aged 16 and 12) and made such an extreme choice. She waited for him for a long time, but when he never returned, she recently resigned herself and began divorce proceedings.

However, an unbelievable twist occurred. The divorce lawyer discovered during paperwork that Guerra had applied for overseas voter registration in February last year. The lawyer informed Borgi that her husband was in Patras, western Greece.

Finding this hard to believe, Borgi thought someone might have found her husband's ID and registered under a fake name. Hoping against hope, she requested the Italian public broadcaster Rai's missing persons TV program 'Chi l'ha visto?' (Who has seen him?) to help find her husband.

On the broadcast on the 20th, Borgi was able to see her husband's face on video for the first time in 10 years. The husband, presumed dead, had found a job in Greece and was living a new life. Now 55, Guerra was very startled upon seeing the camera. He shouted to turn off the camera and chased the crew outside. He also said, "You found me, so go away. This is the end here."

Watching this scene in the broadcast studio, Borgi frowned and said, "He is neither a human, nor a man, nor a father. He is now a grandfather, but he doesn't even know that."
