A parent who continuously filed malicious complaints in the past against the late teacher Lee Young-seung of Howon Elementary School in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, and even received medical expenses, has been placed on standby leave at their workplace.

According to NongHyup on the 22nd, parent A was placed on standby leave and suspended from duty as of the 19th. He was a deputy branch manager at a local NongHyup branch in Seoul.

NongHyup has launched an investigation into the matter and stated that disciplinary action will be considered based on the investigation results. A NongHyup Central Association official said, "We understand that the local NongHyup branch is holding a countermeasure meeting regarding this incident."

Earlier, after A’s personal information was disclosed online, protests flooded the local NongHyup branch in Seoul where he was known to work.

As of the 22nd, more than 550 posts demanding action against A were posted on the local NongHyup branch’s website bulletin board. Netizens posted protest messages such as, "I withdrew all my money because I cannot entrust my funds to a bank with such a deputy branch manager," and "Please dismiss the employee and have him formally investigated and punished."

A condolence wreath was also delivered to the NongHyup branch. The wreath bore phrases such as "Murderer who extorted money from the teacher," "Bank manager, please work with good people," and "I am planning to change my main bank after 30 years of transactions."

According to the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, in 2016, parent A continuously filed malicious complaints against the teacher after his child injured their hand while cutting a PET bottle with a cutter during class.

The injured child received about 1.4 million won in medical expenses twice from the Gyeonggi School Safety Mutual Aid Association, but A continued to contact the teacher persistently, demanding compensation both while the teacher was serving in the military and after returning to work. The teacher eventually gave A a total of 4 million won out of pocket over eight months from April 2019, paying 500,000 won monthly.

After confirming the act of interference with educational activities against the teacher, the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education has requested an investigation by the Uijeongbu Police into A and two other parents on charges of obstruction of business.
