Since its founding in 1955, Daehan Electric Wire has practiced sharing to help marginalized neighbors in order to fulfill its corporate social responsibility and duties. The vision,
The main social contribution activities include communication with future generations through education, engagement with local communities, love for the planet, and activities linked with Hoban Group.
Since 2012, Daehan Electric Wire has held the ‘Junior Electricity Classroom’ six times a year. This program, targeting elementary school students in Dangjin City, Chungnam Province?where Daehan Electric Wire’s main production facilities are located?teaches electrical principles in an easy and fun way. It is a talent donation event where employees of Daehan Electric Wire directly participate as teachers to instill curiosity and interest in science among students who have fewer opportunities to gain scientific experience compared to those in urban areas.
Additionally, Daehan Electric Wire has conducted a ‘Voice Donation’ activity for future generations. Employees record fairy tales themselves and donate them for visually impaired and multicultural family children, helping to develop language skills and foster positive emotions among children from multicultural families.
Daehan Electric Wire and the Hoban Scholarship Foundation donated 30 million KRW in scholarships to Dangjin City last year to nurture talent. The scholarships were used to support the education of children from low-income families in the Dangjin area who continued their studies despite difficulties caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
Since 2014, Daehan Electric Wire has maintained a relationship with the Bisan Comprehensive Social Welfare Center in Anyang City, where its headquarters was located, and has carried out continuous activities such as supporting elderly living alone and children from low-income families, improving housing conditions, sharing kimchi, and book sharing every year. Even during the COVID-19 period when face-to-face contact was difficult, activities such as holiday shopping volunteer work, making lunch boxes, handmade soap making for Parents’ Day, and kimchi support were conducted to help vulnerable groups in the local community.
Daehan Electric Wire is expanding its activities together with Hoban Group’s employee volunteer team, Hoban Sarang Nanum-i. Last winter, Hoban Sarang Nanum-i donated 15 million KRW. The donation was fully used to support about 300 vulnerable households, including basic livelihood recipients and elderly living alone in Dongan-gu, Anyang City, who had difficulty preparing kimchi. In addition, the Daehan Nuri Volunteer Group participated in the ‘Love Kimchi Sharing’ event held at the welfare center, delivering kimchi directly to neighbors and practicing sharing.
To practice neighborly love and fulfill its responsibilities as a social enterprise, Daehan Electric Wire has been conducting the ‘Love Blood Donation Campaign’ for about 10 years since 2013. This event, held separately in the Dangjin area where Daehan Electric Wire’s headquarters and factories are located, helps alleviate the shortage of blood supply through employee blood donations and donates collected blood donation certificates to help marginalized groups who do not receive medical benefits.
Daehan Electric Wire is also consistent in its ESG activities. Since 2011, it has signed a ‘One Company, One Coastal Cleanup Movement’ agreement with Dangjin City and conducts environmental volunteer activities quarterly at Janggo Port coast. Last year, employees directly participated in volunteer work to improve the environment and create a pleasant living environment. While keeping the breakwater and pier surroundings clean, they collected over 100 kg of trash per session.
Moreover, Daehan Electric Wire takes the lead in protecting endangered species for a sustainable environment. In March last year, it conducted natural purification activities at Dangjin Reservoir Ecological Park to protect the habitat of the endangered ‘Golden Frog’ near the Dangjin factory. Through these natural purification activities, it contributed to biodiversity and the conservation of species related to the Golden Frog, raising awareness of the presence of endangered species in Dangjin and the necessity of conservation efforts. Last year, it donated 10 million KRW to Dangjin City for endangered species conservation and wildlife rescue. It also runs a used battery exchange campaign.
A representative of Daehan Electric Wire’s social contribution department stated, “Daehan Electric Wire is making multifaceted efforts, including employee participatory campaigns and volunteer activities, to create mutual value and build a sustainable future,” adding, “In 2023, we plan to carry out various activities that spread a culture of sharing and deliver warm energy to local communities.”
