Gangbuk-gu Conducts Earthquake Preparedness Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters Operation Drill

Training on Initial Response and Recovery for a Simulated Magnitude 6.0 Earthquake Conducted on the 20th at Gangbuk-gu Office Disaster Safety Situation Room

Gangbuk-gu Conducts Earthquake Preparedness Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters Operation Drill An earthquake preparedness drill was conducted under the leadership of Kangbuk-gu Deputy Mayor Bang-il Lee.

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced that it conducted an "Earthquake Disaster Response Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters Activation Drill" on the 20th to strengthen disaster response capabilities.

The "Earthquake Disaster Response Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters Activation Drill" was prepared in response to the increased need for earthquake drills following a recent overseas earthquake (September 9, 72 km southwest of Morocco, magnitude 6.8). The drill was conducted as a tabletop exercise assuming a large-scale earthquake situation to check disaster response procedures and the roles of each department.

In this drill, the district assumed an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 (depth 10 km) in Seoul as a disaster situation, and trained step-by-step on initial response and recovery for ▲apartment building collapse ▲traffic chaos caused by six types of rear-end collisions ▲partial destruction of houses and occurrence of displaced persons due to landslides. Special focus was placed on strengthening rapid response capabilities for emergency resident evacuation and casualties and building damage in the early stages of the earthquake.

The drill was held in the Disaster Safety Situation Room on the 3rd floor of the district office under the chairmanship of Deputy Mayor Lee Bang-il, with participation from 13 task forces of the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and 26 related departments. Based on the results of this drill, the district plans to supplement deficiencies and strengthen the response system for various disasters such as earthquakes, thereby enhancing the administrative capabilities of the district.

Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, "This drill was conducted thoroughly to strengthen the roles and duties of institutions, distinct from actual evacuation drills that residents can experience," and added, "We will continuously enhance the district's disaster response capabilities to prioritize the protection of residents' lives and property in the event of an earthquake."
