Dobong-gu Holds Future Education Forum with Youth Voices

Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) is collaborating with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education to implement the ‘2023 Seoul Future Education District Dobong-gu Special Project’ in order to establish an education system that strengthens future education in Dobong.

The Dobong-gu education specialization project is a new type of education system development initiative aimed at enhancing future readiness capabilities based on the characteristics of the Dobong-gu area, with active input from local youth.

To directly gather opinions from education stakeholders in Dobong-gu, the district held the ‘2023 Dobong Education Forum’ on July 14. Parents, teachers, youth, and institution officials from the area participated in the forum to provide feedback on Dobong-gu’s education policies.

The forum was conducted through thematic discussions on topics such as expanding career and vocational experience classes and spaces, revitalizing after-school programs for upper elementary grades, and strengthening various educational supports to enhance future talent capabilities. The projects identified as Dobong-gu education specialization initiatives included ▲Daedanhan Tour ▲Making a Graduation Video for Our 6th Grade Class ▲AI Campus Visiting Schools.

First, ‘Daedanhan Tour’ is a mentoring program that motivates high school students in the area by visiting universities to gain strong motivation and overcome limits. On October 28, students will tour universities in Seoul and acquire customized admission information and academic department details from university student mentors.

‘Making a Graduation Video for Our 6th Grade Class,’ targeted at graduating 6th-grade elementary school classes, is an after-school program that strengthens children’s future competencies such as communication, teamwork, and responsibility through producing a graduation video. Students participate in all stages from planning, directing, filming, to editing, while the district dispatches professional video production instructors to assist so that the video can be screened at the graduation ceremony.

Lastly, ‘AI Campus Visiting Schools’ is a digital literacy education program that helps students understand the principles of AI and creatively apply them. It is conducted for 4th to 6th-grade elementary school classes in the area and will be operated from October based on applications from schools and classes.

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, stated, “Through the operation of this Dobong-gu education specialization project, I hope that children and youth in Dobong-gu will develop the competencies and character suitable for future society,” adding, “We will continue to cooperate with the education office to expand various educational opportunities for the future capabilities of Dobong-gu’s children and youth.”
