Autumn, a season that enriches both body and mind, saw Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) successfully host a variety of festivals that brought together the whole family, from children to seniors, in a harmonious celebration.

As the opening act of the festivals, on September 2nd, the district held the ‘2023 Gwanak Lifelong Learning Festival,’ fitting for Seoul’s first lifelong learning city.

Under the theme “Learn (GO), Connect (GO), Lifelong Learning, Lifelong Happiness,” the festival showcased 30 experiential exhibition booths and a humanities concert highlighting residents’ lifelong learning achievements. Notably, over 170 seniors from adult literacy education institutions participated in the senior essay contest, reaffirming the festival’s role as a learning event that spans multiple generations.

On September 16th, the 2023 Gwanak Youth Festival ‘Cheong-A-Jul: The Rose of Sharon Has Bloomed’ was held at the Seoul National University Sports Complex.

With around 3,000 residents including local elementary, middle, and high school students, the festival featured a variety of fun activities such as “The Rose of Sharon Has Bloomed,” “Flipping the Board,” and “Water Gun Games,” offering a refreshing break for students tired of their studies and providing unique enjoyment for residents of all ages.

The short-form dance challenge with the famous street dance crew AIKI’s ‘HOOK’ and popular TikToker ‘Jin Jarim’ among youth further heated up the festival atmosphere.

Additionally, to celebrate Youth Day, from September 15th to 17th, the ‘5th Gwanak Youth Festival’ was held around Byeolbitnaerincheon (Dorimcheon Stream) under the slogan ‘StarLight Gwanak!’ symbolizing the sparkling light of youth.

Special guest Tanaka (comedian Kim Kyung-wook) made a special appearance, sharing stories about his life in his twenties and encouraging young people, while adding fun with various games.

Alongside this, employment lectures and a home concert attracted the attention of young attendees. On the festival’s final day, the 17th, a plogging event?picking up trash while jogging?was held with youth organizations, cleaning the area around Byeolbitnaerincheon (Dorimcheon Stream) and concluding the festival.

On September 16th, the ‘10th Infant Forest Family Festival’ took place at Gwanak Cheongryongsan. The district offered various experiential programs fostering family cooperation and joyful accomplishment, such as “Catch the Squirrel!” where parents become oak trees and children become squirrels, “Let’s Make a Bird’s Nest,” and “Yellow Soil Art Play.”

About 600 family members, from children to parents, participated in this festival, freely resting and enjoying experiences in the forest, creating special memories.

The district also hosted the ‘2023 Gwanak-gu Disabled Sports Festival,’ promoting harmony between people with and without disabilities.

Held on September 19th at the Gwanak-gu Citizens’ Sports Center, this sports event was organized by the Gwanak-gu Disabled Sports Association (Chairman Park Jun-hee, Gwanak-gu Mayor) to improve awareness of disabilities and promote disabled sports.

The district plans to continue offering a variety of attractions and activities for the whole family by hosting the representative festival of Gwanak-gu, the ‘2023 Gwanak Gang Gam-chan Festival,’ from October 13th to 15th.

Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, said, “The most important value in life is happiness,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to create a happy Gwanak-gu for all 500,000 residents.”
