On the 21st at 10:30 AM, the ‘32nd Dongdaemun District Residents' Day’ commemorative event was held at Yongdu Neighborhood Park.
This year’s 32nd event was attended by approximately 500 people, including Dongdaemun District Mayor Ilhyung Lee, local members of the National Assembly, city and district council members, heads of institutions and organizations, and residents, fostering pride and attachment to the region and creating a venue for community harmony.
Before the main ceremony, a congratulatory video from sister cities and an interview video of the ‘32nd Residents' Award recipients,’ who have devoted themselves to various fields and served as role models in the community, were shown. The main ceremony then began in earnest, featuring an awards ceremony for 14 Residents' Award recipients and congratulatory speeches from attending guests.
After the ceremony, the ‘Residents United Folk Festival’ was held to spread the meaning of Chuseok, promote communication and harmony among residents through traditional games, and strengthen solidarity.
The event proceeded sequentially with ▲Songpyeon-making contest by neighborhood ▲folk sports competitions such as four-way tug-of-war, stepping on brass stilts, archery target smashing, and swing relay ▲and a Chuseok residents’ singing contest. Additionally, event booths from 14 neighborhoods were operated together, creating a day of community unity.
At the same time, in the plaza in front of the district office, from 10 AM, the ‘Chuseok Agricultural and Marine Products Direct Market’ was held with participation from 13 sister cities and counties and the Women’s Federation, a related local organization. The market sold about 100 items including fruits and dried seafood produced in sister cities, offering high-quality products at prices lower than market rates, receiving enthusiastic responses.
Dongdaemun District Mayor Ilhyung Lee said, “Thanks to the residents who love Dongdaemun, we have reached the 32nd Residents' Day,” and added, “We will continue to actively promote projects such as building a carbon-neutral city foundation, reorganizing the Cheongnyangni area, and creating a safe city using smart technology, striving tirelessly to make Dongdaemun a ‘good city to live in, a good city to walk in, and a good city to raise children.’”
