Gokseong-gun Village Chiefs Association Launches Campaign to Attract Pumped Storage Power Project

Support for Attracting Pumped Storage Power Plant for Local Economy

Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced on the 20th that the Village Chiefs Association held activities to attract the Gokseong Pumped Storage Power Plant project.

On that day, about 30 village chiefs and general affairs officers from each town and township in Gokseong-gun gathered and pledged to actively engage in efforts to successfully attract the pumped storage power plant through mutual growth and cooperation.

The Village Chiefs Association supports the attraction of the pumped storage power plant for the development of Gokseong-gun and the local economy, and decided to actively carry out promotional activities to widely inform residents about the importance and benefits of the pumped storage power plant.

The Gokseong-gun Village Chiefs Council and major local social organizations formed a pan-citizen promotion committee to attract a pumped storage power plant with a facility capacity of 500MW and a project cost of about 1 trillion won in the Gochi-ri area of Jukgok-myeon.

The committee, composed of a chairman, vice-chairman, and operating, publicity, and promotion divisions, encourages active participation from residents and is conducting activities to attract the pumped storage power plant.

Once the pumped storage power plant is established, Gokseong-gun expects direct benefits such as securing regional development funds and tax revenues.

Along with this, it is anticipated that job creation through increased employment and regional economic revitalization will bring young people back, giving Gokseong-gun more vitality.

Lee Hae-ju, chairman of the Village Chiefs Council, said, “We will focus on promoting to residents for the successful attraction of the pumped storage power plant in Gokseong-gun. We hope everyone will unite for the bright future of Gokseong.”

Gokseong-gun boasts beautiful natural environments and ecological tourism resources such as the Seomjin River and wetland habitats, and has recently gained attention for establishing a digital tourism hub in line with changing tourism trends. After signing a business agreement with Korea East-West Power Co., Ltd., Gokseong-gun held a submission ceremony for the application to attract the pumped storage power plant, aiming to revitalize stay-type tourism by linking Gokseong-gun’s unique tourism content with the pumped storage power plant.
