Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters holding a meeting for the Shin Hanul Unit 1 radiation emergency preparedness full-scale drill.
The full-scale radiation emergency response drill is conducted once a year for each power plant in accordance with the "Act on Protection and Radiation Emergency Response Measures for Nuclear Facilities," aiming to protect the lives and property of the public and minimize the radiation impact on the environment in preparation for any radiation emergency accident during power plant operation.
This drill focused on power restoration using a mobile power generator and medical relief training for contaminated patients, assuming damage to power generation facilities and loss of internal and external power due to a natural disaster caused by an earthquake. It was conducted under the supervision and inspection of officials from the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission, Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety, and Korea Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences.
Director Lee Seyong stated, "This full-scale radiation emergency response drill provided an opportunity to check various emergency response capabilities and equipment for radiation emergency accidents, including rapid activation of emergency response organizations, handling of power plant emergency situations, and situation communication." He added, "I hope this drill has further enhanced the emergency response capabilities of Shin Hanul emergency personnel."
