Busan Gijang-gun is operating the 2023 Battery Collection Month until the end of September, targeting daycare centers, kindergartens, and elementary, middle, and high schools within the district.
The Battery Collection Month was initiated to prevent environmental pollution by intensively collecting used batteries left unattended in households and to increase the low recycling rate of used batteries.
To increase the collection rate during this intensive collection period, the county, with support from the Korea Battery Recycling Association, distributed battery collection bags and separate disposal promotional leaflets to daycare centers, kindergartens, and elementary, middle, and high schools within the district.
During this intensive collection period, daycare centers, kindergartens, and elementary, middle, and high schools in the district can collect a certain amount of used batteries and then apply for collection by disposal companies.
Additionally, five eup/myeon administrative welfare centers and the Gijang-gun Cleaning Resources Department operate used battery collection and exchange counters where used batteries can be exchanged for designated waste bags at any time.
An official from the county stated, “Used batteries are valuable resources that must be separately collected to prevent environmental pollution and promote resource circulation,” and added, “We ask residents to actively participate in the intensive collection of used batteries for environmental preservation and health.”
