"Yoon Seok-yeol, I Didn't Expect This" Apology from Moon... Turns Out

Virtual Column by Kim Yong-min, Former 'Nakkomsu' Member
Online Sparks Debate Over 'Authenticity'
Yoon Gun-young: "Unrelated to Moon... Subtractive Politics Should Not Happen"

Former President Moon Jae-in recently attended his first official event since leaving office, and meanwhile, a post titled "Apology Letter from Former President Moon Jae-in" has been circulating on social media, attracting attention. However, it was revealed that the column was written not by former President Moon but by Kim Yong-min, director of the nonprofit organization Peace Tree and a former member of the podcast "Naneun Kkomsuda."

The controversial post was uploaded by Director Kim on the Peace Tree website on the 12th. It is written from the perspective of President Moon as a fictional narrator, apologizing to the public for the misjudgment of appointing President Yoon Seok-yeol as the top prosecutor and for failing in prosecutorial reform.

The post is structured under six subheadings: ▲ I raised Yoon Seok-yeol ▲ I did not expect him to act this way ▲ I thought he was on our side regarding prosecutorial reform ▲ All achievements of the Moon Jae-in administration are being denied ▲ Honestly, I was not interested in Lee Jae-myung’s election ▲ Let’s ensure there is no unlucky Democratic Party president like me.

The post includes expressions such as "It is painful that I did not listen to former Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae’s advice to discipline Yoon Seok-yeol to block his political future," and "I was deluded about Yoon Seok-yeol. I was blinded by the active investigations into the corrupt practices led by officials from the previous Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye administrations and conglomerate chairmen." It also states, "I did not expect him to act this way. I never imagined in my wildest dreams that he would become the People Power Party’s presidential candidate by stabbing the Moon Jae-in administration in the back."

As controversy over the authenticity of the post grew, Yoon Gun-young, a member of the Democratic Party who served as the Chief of the Office of National Affairs in the Moon Jae-in administration’s Blue House, stepped forward to clarify that "the post has nothing to do with former President Moon."

On the 20th, Representative Yoon posted on Facebook, "Some people have asked if the apology letter circulating online attributed to former President Moon Jae-in is genuine, so I want to clarify that it is a post completely unrelated to former President Moon." He added, "Perhaps the frustration and anger over the Yoon Seok-yeol administration’s tyranny led someone to create this fictional post. I also reflect on what mindset might have inspired such writing."

He continued, "However, please consider whether that sentiment might be hurting those standing beside us in the fight rather than the Yoon Seok-yeol administration. The most difficult and painful times for the party were when the voices stabbing the hearts of those standing alongside us and mocking our comrades grew louder," emphasizing. Representative Yoon concluded his post by saying, "We cannot win with politics of subtraction. I sincerely hope that does not happen."
