On the 21st, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the 14th 'Display Day' commemorative ceremony at Lotte Hotel World in Jamsil, Seoul, attended by display industry contributors, industry representatives, executives, and their families.
The ceremony, attended by over 350 people?the largest ever?honored a total of 40 contributors who have contributed to the development of the display industry. In particular, considering the growing importance of the display industry as an advanced and strategic industry, this year marked the first time the Gold Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit was awarded in the display industry.
The Gold Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit was awarded to Choi Ju-seon, CEO of Samsung Display. CEO Choi was recognized for achievements including innovating mass production technology for organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays and being the first in the world to invest in 8.6-generation production facilities for IT OLEDs such as tablets and laptops, contributing significantly to the development of the display industry.
The Presidential Citation was awarded to Han Ki-su, CEO of Philoptics, who developed laser processing equipment for flexible displays. The Prime Minister's Citation was awarded to Park Kwon-sik, Executive Director of LG Display, and Shin Jeong-geun, Vice President of KC Tech. Additionally, 36 contributors who strengthened competitiveness in materials, parts, and equipment and contributed to technological innovation were honored.
Visiting Kyu, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, who took office on the 20th, attended the ceremony as part of efforts to communicate directly with the industry.
In his congratulatory speech, Minister Bang stated, "Securing an overwhelming lead in advanced industries through manufacturing capabilities and technological prowess will be the top priority of industrial policy." He announced plans to solidify the technological gap based on OLED in the display industry, preempt future core technologies such as inorganic light-emitting and metaverse displays, and establish an unwavering supply chain for materials, parts, and equipment to reclaim the world's number one position in displays by 2027.
Minister Bang expressed gratitude to display companies performing well despite difficult conditions such as the global economic downturn and emphasized that the public and private sectors must concentrate their capabilities together to firmly establish the display industry's technological lead.
