The Seo-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 21st that the "Ordinance on the Protection of Emotional Laborers in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City," which was proposed by Councilor Kim Tae-jin as the representative, has been enacted during the 314th extraordinary session.
The ordinance aims to protect emotional laborers working in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, and its affiliated institutions, and to contribute to the promotion of human rights through the establishment of a healthy labor culture.
Emotional laborers, who are the target beneficiaries of the ordinance, face harsh working conditions where they must hide their true emotions and display false ones, leading to frequent reports of harm.
Accordingly, the ordinance stipulates the establishment of plans to protect emotional laborers and foster a healthy labor culture, as well as conducting a status survey every two years. Additionally, it seeks to promote a healthy labor culture by operating counseling programs and other measures.
Councilor Kim said, “Among the five autonomous districts of Gwangju City, it is fortunate that Seo-gu has now enacted the emotional laborers’ ordinance, which has already been established in the other four districts.” He added, “I hope this ordinance will serve as a foundation to listen to the voices from the emotional labor field and to practically protect emotional laborers within the district.”
