On the 20th, JTBC reported that Mr. Kim, a man in his 50s, lost sight in his right eye after receiving surgery at a plastic surgery clinic located in Gangnam, Seoul.

Earlier, in May, Mr. Kim had undergone lower eyelid fat repositioning surgery on both eyes, but immediately after the surgery, his right eye swelled severely, leading to a revision surgery to wash out the blood accumulated in the eye.

However, after the revision surgery, his right eye remained blind, so he informed the hospital. The hospital reassured him, saying it was a symptom that could generally occur after plastic surgery. But when his vision did not return after a day, he visited the hospital in person, and the doctor advised him to "get examined at a nearby university hospital."

The university hospital's diagnosis revealed that Mr. Kim's optic nerve was damaged, making it impossible to recover his vision. He said, "It was mentally very difficult," and added, "I also developed depression and was unable to live a normal life at that time."

Mr. Kim demanded compensation from the hospital for four months, but the hospital expressed "regret" and said it would only take moral responsibility. Ultimately, having received no concrete compensation offer, Mr. Kim filed civil and criminal lawsuits against the hospital on the 20th.

According to JTBC, the hospital stated after the related investigation began, "We will sincerely comply if the cause is identified through a physical examination and the court or others determine the scope of compensation."
