Government Employees Pension Service, GEPS 2050 Carbon Neutrality Roadmap Established

On the 21st, the Government Employees Pension Service announced that it has established the 'GEPS 2050 Carbon Neutrality Roadmap,' an annual plan to achieve zero carbon emissions.

This roadmap, prepared through consulting with specialized institutions, includes an analysis of carbon emission sources and amounts, as well as the current status of renewable energy facilities. Additionally, the Service conducted an assessment of carbon emission reduction amounts for its owned facilities to develop practically applicable carbon emission reduction scenarios.

According to this roadmap, the Service plans to gradually reduce carbon emissions by 50% by 2030, 75% by 2040, and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

As greenhouse gas reduction measures, the Service intends to annually promote the expansion of renewable energy facilities such as solar and geothermal energy, replace internal combustion engine vehicles with electric vehicles, introduce green remodeling, and purchase RECs, with an estimated total cost of 18.5 billion KRW over the next 27 years.

Facilities operated by the Service, including hotels and golf courses, have also established plans to reduce carbon emissions by electrifying work vehicles, electrifying fossil fuel facilities, and introducing various renewable energy facilities such as wind and geothermal energy. This is expected to serve as a guideline for similar private sector facilities to pursue carbon neutrality plans in the future.

Going forward, the Service plans to lead ESG management by expanding ESG investments and joining K-RE100. By the end of this year, it will publish a sustainability management report covering both financial and non-financial performance to communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
