The three major indices of the U.S. New York Stock Exchange all closed lower on the 20th (local time) as the Federal Reserve (Fed) indicated additional interest rate hikes within the year and a prolonged period of high rates at the September Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting.
On this day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.22% compared to the previous session. The S&P 500, centered on large-cap stocks, fell 0.94%, and the tech-focused Nasdaq index dropped 1.53% to close the session.
