Hapcheon-gun Wins Awards at Gyeongnam Province Adult Literacy Education Poetry and Painting Exhibition

Five Works Including the Gyeongsangnam-do Governor's Award

Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 21st that five adult literacy education class students from Hapcheon-gun received awards at the ‘2023 Gyeongsangnam-do Adult Literacy Education Poetry and Calligraphy Contest and Literacy Month’ awards ceremony held at the 2023 Sancheong World Traditional Medicine Anti-Aging Expo venue.


This event was held to commemorate ‘Literacy Month in Korea (September),’ proclaimed by the Ministry of Education and the National Institute for Lifelong Education, and to hold the 2023 Adult Literacy Education Poetry and Calligraphy Contest awards ceremony during the 2023 Sancheong World Traditional Medicine Anti-Aging Expo period.

Park Gil-ja (74), a student of the Jangdan 2nd District classroom in Daebyeong-myeon, Hapcheon-gun, received the Gyeongnam Governor’s Award. Jo Ok-bun (78) from the Sangpo classroom in Ssangchaek-myeon, Kim Gwang-ja (70) from the Nambu Elementary School Equivalency Class, and Lee Kyung-nam (74) from the Daeyang Middle School Equivalency Class received the Gyeongnam Talent Lifelong Education Promotion Institute Director’s Award in the Moving Writing category. Kim Seok-sun (70) from Hasingyo-gil, Ssangbaek-myeon, received the Hope Writing Award.


In particular, 17 students from the Middle School Equivalency Class participated in a pre-event performance under the team name ‘Suryeohan Silver Middle Schoolers,’ singing Edelweiss and performing the traditional plate dance to the music of ‘Dad’s Youth,’ receiving enthusiastic applause.


Byun Jong-cheol, Director of the Culture and Arts Division, said, “The passion for learning of the adult literacy class students seems to have returned as the joy of this award,” adding, “We will continue to plan and operate high-quality adult literacy education programs so that many people can enjoy the joy of learning.”
