On the 19th (local time), Reed Jobs attended the startup exhibition "TechCrunch Disrupt 2023" held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California, USA.
Last month, he established a venture capital (VC) firm called "Yosemite" to support the development of cancer treatments. He secured a fund of $200 million (approximately 260 billion KRW) from various individuals and institutional investors, including MIT.
He mentioned his father, Steve Jobs, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2011. Steve Jobs was first diagnosed with cancer when Reed was 12 years old, and he passed away eight years later at the age of 20.
He said, "It was natural for me to become interested in cancer treatment," adding, "Through the fund, I will focus on investments in the healthcare sector and cancer treatment."
Developing new cancer treatments has been a challenge for humanity so far, but he said that overcoming these difficulties and succeeding would bring great fulfillment.
He continued, "What I believe is that treatments for major cancers are currently making significant progress," and added, "This gives me great motivation."
He further stated, "I believe that within the next 20 years, the mortality rate will decrease very, very significantly."

When asked if he planned to start a company, he replied, "What I am doing now can have a much greater impact," and said, "I think it can have a much bigger influence than what a single company can achieve."
He added, "I am naturally competitive, and there is a family atmosphere that if you start a company, you must succeed."
Reed Jobs plans to grow the fund to $400 million (520 billion KRW) and support not only startups researching cancer treatments but also related research.
Meanwhile, Reed Jobs decided to become a doctor after his father was diagnosed with cancer and pursued pre-medical studies at Stanford University, but after his father’s death, he switched to studying history.
