Opening of National and Public Forest Roads During Chuseok Holiday... "Convenience Provided for Grass Cutting and Ancestral Grave Visitors" Provided by Korea Forest Service

On the 20th, the Korea Forest Service announced that from the 23rd of this month to the 9th of next month, forest roads managed by the national and local governments will be temporarily opened for visitors paying respects at ancestral graves and those visiting their hometowns.

The forest roads to be opened include 8,230 km managed by 27 national forest management offices nationwide and 16,699 km managed by 243 cities, counties, and districts.

However, some sections of forest roads that have weakened ground due to typhoons from June to September and where secondary damage such as landslides is a concern will not be opened.

The status of forest road openings can be checked through the local governments or national forest management offices responsible for each forest road.

Nam Seong-hyun, Administrator of the Korea Forest Service, said, “We are taking steps to temporarily open forest roads during the Chuseok holiday so that the public can use them for grass cutting and paying respects at ancestral graves. We ask the public using the forest roads to refrain from illegal activities such as entering privately owned mountains to collect mushrooms or other forest products or littering.”
