KCSC Holds Meeting with Google Vice President... Urges Cooperation on Fake News Measures

The Korea Communications Standards Commission announced that Chairman Ryu Hee-rim will hold a meeting with Marcom Erickson, Vice President of Google Government and Public Policy, at the Mokdong Broadcasting Hall on the 21st.


At this meeting, Chairman Ryu will request active cooperation to promptly prevent the distribution of various illegal and harmful information circulated through Google and YouTube platforms, and Vice President Marcom Erickson is expected to explain Google's content policies and efforts made so far to create a safe environment for users.

In particular, Chairman Ryu plans to express concerns about fake news spreading through YouTube. He stated that he will urge Google to actively participate in resolving the damage and dysfunction caused by fake news that defames others' reputations or causes social confusion.


Taking this meeting as an opportunity, the Korea Communications Standards Commission intends to further strengthen its policy cooperation with Google to eradicate the distribution of illegal and harmful information and protect domestic users. The Commission stated, "We will continue to pursue visits to Google's headquarters and practical consultations to seek more effective follow-up measures."
