[2023 Asia Construction Awards] GS Construction Advances as ESG Leading Company through Social Contribution Activities

GS Engineering & Construction, which won the Asia Economy Grand Prize in the social contribution category of the Asia Construction Comprehensive Awards this year, is emerging as a leading ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) company through diverse and differentiated social contribution activities.

GS Engineering & Construction was certified as a representative eco-friendly construction company by receiving an integrated grade of 'A (Excellent)' in the '2022 Listed Companies ESG Evaluation' announced by the Korea Corporate Governance Service (KCGS). It has received the integrated grade A for four consecutive years since 2019.

Since last year, GS Engineering & Construction has been implementing support projects for young cultural artists and school sports under the name ‘Connect.’ This initiative was planned to create social value by sharing corporate spaces and resources with members of society. Starting with the ‘Connect Concert,’ a music performance supporting young musicians held at GS Engineering & Construction’s Grand Seoul in June last year, the company also held a ‘Connect Concert’ in October at Cheonggyecheon Square featuring a total of 18 artist teams.

GS Engineering & Construction carries out employee volunteer work and various social contribution programs to support neighbors in need. The most focused program is the ‘Dream and Hope Study Room.’ This project provides a stable study environment for children from low-income families. It supports these children by improving their living conditions through wallpapering, flooring, and lighting replacement, as well as providing furniture such as desks, wardrobes, beds, and PCs. Additionally, entrance fees are supported when these students enter university. The ‘Dream and Hope Study Room’ started with its first location in May 2011 and opened its 300th location this May, continuing its activities. The program is conducted in cooperation with the ChildFund Korea and, since 2015, has also been linked with the Namchon Foundation.

GS Engineering & Construction has also been practicing ethical management in various aspects such as organization, systems, policies, and education. The company operates an ethical management website and a cyber whistleblower system, receiving reports of unethical behavior from both internal and external parties through the cyber whistleblower system, thereby involving customers in ethical management. Furthermore, GS Engineering & Construction actively practices various integrity management activities such as the ‘No Gift Acceptance Campaign,’ ‘Prohibition of Stock Ownership by Partner Companies,’ and ‘Unethical Behavior Reporting and Reward System,’ focusing on creating results based on trust with customers, investors, employees, and partner companies. A GS Engineering & Construction official stated, “In the ESG era, win-win management and social contribution activities are not a choice but a necessity,” adding, “GS Engineering & Construction will continue sustainable management that considers neighbors and society as a leading ESG company in the future.”
