Chungnam Province announced on the 20th that it will undertake an urban planning revision to improve small parks, green spaces, and pedestrian routes within Naepo New Town.
Naepo New Town was designated as an urban development zone in 2007, with development and implementation plans established the following year. Starting with the relocation of the Chungnam Provincial Government Office in 2012, the full-scale Naepo era began.
Currently, infrastructure such as parks and roads has been completed on 9.91 million㎡ out of 9.95 million㎡ (99.6%), with completion scheduled for December next year.
However, issues such as insufficient rest areas and shade within some parks, inconvenient accessibility, a lack of specialized streets to promote commercial activity, and pedestrian path inconveniences remain challenges to be addressed.
Accordingly, Chungnam Province recently decided to completely replace poorly growing trees along streets and green spaces within Naepo New Town and plans to promote a comprehensive revision that includes the rearrangement and improvement of small parks, green spaces, and pedestrian routes.
To carry out the new town revision, Chungnam Province has assigned the Chungnam Research Institute the task of addressing the revision as a priority issue and will also operate a working group composed of experts in urban planning, landscaping, and design.
Song Mugyeong, head of the Chungnam Province Public Institution Attraction Team, stated, “Through the revision, we will expand specialized commercial streets, green plazas, and pedestrian paths that will revitalize the city,” adding, “We will prepare an urban planning revision strategy with these contents by the end of this year.”
