The Korea Railroad Workers' Union, which completed its first nationwide strike lasting four days, has decided to suspend the second nationwide strike it had announced.
On the 19th, the Railroad Union issued a press release stating, "We conveyed our opinions to the government regarding high-speed rail operations, and since consultations have begun, we are suspending the scheduled second strike."
The Railroad Union said, "Through consultations with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, we have agreed to conduct detailed discussions on high-speed rail operations starting early next month," adding, "Since a forum for preparing measures has been established, the second strike will be suspended."
Earlier, the Railroad Union launched a general strike on the 14th, demanding the operation of the 'Suseo-bound KTX' to resolve citizen inconveniences caused by an 11.2% reduction in the high-speed rail line between Suseo and Busan.
As a warning strike urging the government to engage in dialogue, the union had announced that if negotiations did not progress, second and third strikes would be carried out.
However, the Railroad Union reiterated its previous stance, stating, "The demand for the Suseo-bound KTX received support from an absolute majority of citizens, with 7 out of 10 agreeing," and "Even if it is a government policy, it is appropriate to supplement and revise it according to citizens' demands."
They further explained, "Although we could not immediately meet the citizens' demands to resolve the inconvenience, since a forum has been established, we will do our best to find a solution."
