On the same day, former President Moon visited Green Hospital in Jungnang-gu, Seoul, where Lee was admitted, to pay a visit. Cheon Jun-ho, chief secretary to the party leader, Seo Young-kyo, Supreme Council member, and Park Hong-geun, former floor leader, welcomed former President Moon.
Cheon Jun-ho and Yoon Gun-young, a close aide to former President Moon, were present at the meeting, during which former President Moon urged Lee to stop his hunger strike.
While lying down, Lee apologized to former President Moon, saying, "I'm sorry."
Former President Moon said, "You have shown the sincerity and determination of your hunger strike sufficiently," adding, "We have to fight for a long time, and the situation is changing now, so it seems to be a time when you need to quickly regain strength and fight again in a different way," urging him to stop the hunger strike.
Lee replied, "I have no intention," and seemingly targeting President Yoon Suk-yeol, said, "I don't know what kind of thoughts he has in politics."
Former President Moon said, "Now, Lee is not alone. Many people are suffering together, feeling sorry, and hoping for you to stand up again," adding, "You should always keep that in mind."
Earlier, on the second day of Lee's hunger strike on the 1st, former President Moon called Lee and said, "The Yoon Suk-yeol government's reckless actions are too severe, and it is worrisome that the leader of the main opposition party is on a hunger strike. Please take good care of your health."
Former President Moon's visit to Seoul is his first since his retirement in May last year.
After the hospital visit, former President Moon is scheduled to attend the 5th anniversary event of the September 19 Pyongyang Joint Declaration held at the 63 Building in Yeouido, Seoul.
