Easy Payment with Naver Pay Without Currency Exchange
Payment Expected to Be Available in Japan Within the Year
Naver Pay is partnering with Alipay to launch on-site payment services at merchants in China.
Naver Financial announced on the 19th that it will start Naver Pay QR on-site payment services at Alipay merchants throughout China, including Hangzhou, the host city of the 19th Asian Games, in collaboration with Alipay.
Accordingly, customers will be able to make payments by presenting a QR code or scanning the QR code displayed in stores using the camera within the application (app) at all payment locations in China bearing the ‘Alipay Plus’ logo, such as airports, department stores, marts, and taxis.
No separate currency exchange procedures are required. Payments can be made using Naver Pay points or Naver Pay Money directly charged. If the balance is insufficient for the payment amount, it will be recharged in units of 10,000 KRW through the linked charging account before payment. Payments are possible not only through Naver Pay but also via the Naver app.
Alipay Plus is the official sponsor of the '2023 Hangzhou Asian Games,' which opens on the 23rd, and exclusively provides payment services at key event locations such as the Asian Games venues and athlete villages.
Previously, by partnering with UnionPay as well, offline payments with Naver Pay have effectively become possible throughout China. Among the three major simple payment providers in China?Alipay, UnionPay, and WeChat Pay?Naver Pay is the only simple payment company to have partnered with two of them.
A Naver Pay representative said, "Starting with the Hangzhou Asian Games, we will expand global payment cooperation to provide differentiated experiences and benefits unique to Naver Pay in more countries," adding, "We are preparing to enable Naver Pay QR payments at all Alipay Plus merchants in Japan within this year at the earliest."
