At around 5:23 a.m. on the 19th, a 4-ton coastal composite fishing vessel sank near the waters 1.3 km off Chorido, Myeongdong, Jinhae-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam, prompting the Changwon Coast Guard to launch a rescue operation for the crew.

According to the Changwon Maritime Police Station, the vessel A departed from Jinhae Sokcheon Port at around 5 a.m. that day and while operating near Chorido, the bow of the ship sank.

Upon receiving the report, the Changwon Coast Guard urged the two crew members on board to wear life jackets and dispatched patrol vessels, the Changwon Coast Guard rescue team, and coastal rescue boats from the local police station to the accident site.

At the scene, the Coast Guard personnel boarded the flooded vessel, used a bilge pump to remove seawater that had filled the engine room, performed emergency repairs on the leaking cooling water pump, and then transported the vessel and the distressed individuals back to Jinhae Sokcheon Port.

A Changwon Coast Guard official stated, “The rescue request for the flooded vessel was made at an appropriate time, allowing for a swift rescue,” and added, “If an accident occurs at sea, please do not hesitate and report it immediately via emergency phone.”
