Sinan-gun and Busan Geumjeong-gu Form Sisterhood for Mutual Development

Imjado to be designated as an honorary island of Geumjeong-gu for public use

Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Park Woo-ryang) announced on the 19th that it signed a sisterhood agreement with Geumjeong-gu, Busan, on the 18th at the Geumjeong-gu Office large conference room to promote mutual development through exchange and cooperation.

At the signing ceremony, attended by about 50 people including Park Woo-ryang, Governor of Shinan-gun, Kim Jae-yoon, Mayor of Geumjeong-gu, members of the district and county councils, and the president of the Shinan-gun residents' association in Busan, both local governments agreed to expand exchanges in various fields such as administration, culture, arts, sports, and economy, and to build a win-win development network through promotion and sales of local specialties and cultural experience exchanges during regional festivals and various events.


In particular, they agreed to share Imjado Island of Shinan-gun as an honorary island of Geumjeong-gu.


Governor Park Woo-ryang of Shinan-gun stated, “To create the 1004 Islands with the highest happiness and health indices in Korea, we are creating gardens and cultivating flowers on each island and establishing one museum per island, transforming Shinan-gun into a world-class cultural and artistic island. We will strive to build a cooperative system where both regions can coexist and become happy sister cities together.”


Meanwhile, Shinan-gun has shared sisterhoods with 19 cities and 9 honorary islands, and is actively promoting sisterhood agreements and honorary island sharing with local governments nationwide.
