KT, Asian Games International Broadcast Relay Service... "Delivering Golden News Vividly"

To commemorate the establishment of the relay network, KT held an opening ceremony at the KT Seoul International Telecommunication Center located in Hyehwa, Seoul. The event proceeded by having a video conference with seven employees dispatched to the Hangzhou International Broadcasting Center (IBC) in August, followed by switching on the connection to link the broadcast signals between Korea and China.

Following the Beijing Winter Olympics and the Qatar World Cup, KT was solely selected as the main telecommunications company to provide the international broadcasting relay network for real-time transmission of the Asian Games to South Korea. The total number of lines provided to the three terrestrial broadcasters is 114 lines for UHD/HD TV broadcasts.

Asian Games match footage reaches the Seoul International Telecommunication Center via KT’s overseas hub facilities and the large-capacity international submarine cable at the Busan International Telecommunication Center, and is then provided to the three terrestrial broadcasters. To ensure smooth broadcast relay, the entire international submarine cable section between Hangzhou IBC and the three terrestrial broadcasters has been multiplexed into four main routes and two backup routes. KT also provides international phone and internet services to broadcasting officials, press corps, and Asian Games personnel on site.

Lee Sang-il, Head of KT’s Gangbuk-Gangwon Network Operations Headquarters, stated, "We will do our best to vividly deliver the golden news of the Korean athletes and bring passionate emotions to the people."
