Formation of a Green Leading Village Harmonizing People, Environment, and Space
Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Park Woo-ryang) announced on the 18th that Seondo Village in Jido-eup has been selected for the ‘Carbon Neutrality Practice Leading Village Creation Project’ organized by Jeollanam-do.
The Carbon Neutrality Practice Leading Village Creation Project designates ‘Jido Seondo Village’ as a representative village for carbon neutrality and energy transition, aiming to create a carbon forest and foster a cooperative atmosphere for climate crisis response and carbon neutrality through resident-participatory carbon neutrality education.
The main projects include △ planting trees to create a carbon forest △ replacing residential LED lighting △ carbon neutrality practice education for residents.
Through this project, it is expected to form a green leading village where people, environment, and space harmonize, and to build a national consensus on the necessity of practicing carbon neutrality through proactive participation of local residents.
Additionally, village residents are expected to realize energy welfare by reducing carbon emissions such as electricity bills through the replacement of high-efficiency LED lighting and improving energy self-sufficiency.
Governor Park Woo-ryang stated, “By promoting this project in Seondo Village, a major tourist destination in Shinan-gun, we expect to maximize the promotional effect of carbon neutrality, and we plan to continuously pursue projects necessary for carbon neutrality. Through these efforts, Shinan-gun, registered as a World Natural Heritage site for its Korean tidal flats, will take a leading role in responding to the government’s Green New Deal and carbon neutrality policies.”
Meanwhile, the county plans to expand the formation of a carbon neutrality consensus and the spread of residents’ practical lifestyle through the creation of a carbon neutrality practice village community.
