People Power Party Lawmaker, KBS Radio Interview
"General Election Should Be Held Based on President's Approval Rating"
Lee Yong, a member of the People Power Party, said on the 18th regarding the so-called 'Yongsan-originated general election list,' which claims that the party leadership requested the Yongsan Presidential Office staff to be dispatched for next year's general election, "Since our talent pool is not very abundant, it is natural that there are talks about certain people from Yongsan running in the general election."
On the same day, on KBS Radio's 'Choi Kyung-young's Strong Current Affairs,' Lee said, "During the Moon Jae-in administration, people like Go Min-jung, Choi Kang-wook, Kim Eui-gyeom, Han Byung-do, and Kim Seung-won ran in the 21st general election," adding, "At that time, before the general election, there were many reports in the media about who from the Blue House would run in the election, so it is natural that such talks are happening now."
He continued, "Currently, President Yoon Seok-yeol's approval rating is around 37 to 38%, but the regular National Assembly session is still ongoing, and there is time until about April next year," adding, "I believe the approval rating will gradually recover."
He further said, "We won the local elections with the president's approval rating after winning the last presidential election," and analyzed, "I think next year's general election will also be decided by the president's approval rating. Therefore, the president's approval rating needs to be around 40% to have a chance of winning."
Lee said, "However, unlike the president's national approval rating, many People Power Party lawmakers who can support the president should emerge after next year's general election," adding, "That way, there will be better understanding for the president and it will help in governing the country."
