Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who had been continuing his hunger strike, was urgently transported to a hospital on the morning of the 18th.
It is reported that Lee was taken by an ambulance called by the Democratic Party to the nearby Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital.
Since the 31st of last month, Lee has been on a hunger strike demanding government reform and a full cabinet reshuffle, a public apology from the president for undermining democracy, and a clear opposition to Japan's discharge of contaminated water.
The day before, the Democratic Party called a 119 ambulance to hospitalize Lee, but he expressed his intention to continue the hunger strike, so the ambulance withdrew.
Earlier, senior advisors Kim Won-ki, Moon Hee-sang, and Lim Chae-jung had demanded the party leadership forcibly hospitalize him.
