Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do has taken steps to create a fair public service environment free from abuse of power.
On the 15th, the county held a 'Prevention of Abuse of Power and Code of Conduct' training session for public officials at the 4th floor Academy Hall of the county office. The lecture was given by Min Su-jin, an instructor in charge of integrity education at the Integrity Training Institute.
The dictionary definition of abuse of power is "an unfair act committed by a person in a relatively superior position against another." During the training, participants learned about the concept of abuse of power and the prohibition clauses related to abuse of power stipulated in the public officials' code of conduct.
Using real-life cases, the training introduced common types and situations of abuse of power frequently occurring in public institutions, which resonated with the attendees.
Instructor Min Su-jin emphasized that "issues that managers do not consider abuse of power tend to be perceived as such by younger employees," highlighting the need for public officials in managerial positions to lead by example.
Kim Han-jong, Jangseong-gun County Governor, who participated in the training, stated, "If mutual consideration, communication, and understanding are the foundation, issues of abuse of power will greatly decrease," and urged, "I hope everyone will join forces to foster a mature culture of harmony and change throughout not only the public service but also the entire local community."
Meanwhile, Jangseong-gun, which rose to the 2nd grade in the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission's '2022 Comprehensive Integrity Evaluation of Public Institutions' for the first time in seven years, is promoting various integrity policies with the goal of achieving the 1st grade. Recently, it has attracted significant attention by introducing a self-learning integrity system, holding integrity content competitions, integrity meetings with the county governor, and live integrity education sessions.
