Joanna Stern, a tech columnist for The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) who used to criticize Samsung's new products with almost mocking reviews, praised the new iPhone 15 as a "Huge Deal." He, who has been full of praise for every new Apple product, has been criticized for being more of an Apple follower than a tech columnist.
According to the WSJ report on the 13th (local time), Joanna Stern, who performed a mocking act by putting sausages into Samsung foldable phones and comparing the Galaxy S series to antiques, praised Apple’s decision to adopt the USB-C port as a "Huge Deal." Stern praised the change of the charging port alone as being worth it.

He pointed to the charging port as the biggest change in the new iPhone. The new iPhone 15 will all use the 'USB-C' type cable, which is used in Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy devices, instead of the existing thin lightning port. Apple decided to follow the 'standard' as the European Union (EU) mandates USB-C for all electronic devices sold in Europe starting next year.
He even showed his joy with a performance by throwing a pile of Apple’s lightning cables out the window, celebrating the finally unified charging port.
Stern said, "This small port will be the biggest iPhone news to affect consumers in the next few years," adding, "If you have (lightning) cables accumulated for 10 years in your car, desk, or bedside table, they will no longer work now."
Apple has so far pursued a strategy of maximizing profits centered on its own standardization. It has been criticized for charging exorbitant prices for charging ports and some small accessories. Apple started selling USB-C adapters immediately after unveiling the iPhone 15 series equipped with USB-C charging ports. The price of the 'USB-C to Lightning adapter,' which converts lightning cables to USB-C, is 45,000 won.
