Jinju City, Blocking Sources of African Swine Fever Contamination

Active Promotion of Quarantine Guidelines During Chuseok Holiday Period

Jinju City in Gyeongnam Province is actively promoting African Swine Fever (ASF) prevention and quarantine guidelines until October 3rd to block the occurrence of ASF during the autumn season and the Chuseok holiday.

Since wild boar sightings are frequent during the crop harvest season in September and October, and there is increased movement of outsiders around the Chuseok holiday, the city is actively guiding quarantine rules by installing ASF prevention banners at 18 locations including agricultural wholesale markets and town and township offices, as well as through village broadcasts and text messages (SMS).

The quarantine guidelines for preventing ASF during the Chuseok holiday include ▲ refraining from visiting livestock farms and areas with infectious animal diseases ▲ prohibiting entry to livestock farms when participating in grave trimming and ancestral rites ▲ collecting all leftover food without leaving any around the graves ▲ returning home directly without visiting farms ▲ strictly following hand washing and shoe disinfection ▲ thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting vehicles and equipment before and after farm visits ▲ regularly disinfecting and cleaning inside livestock barns ▲ focusing disinfection on barn entrances and the exterior of barns.

A city official stated, “Prevention of ASF depends on actions and practice,” and urged, “In addition to livestock farmers adhering to quarantine rules such as refraining from entering areas with infectious animal diseases, we ask ancestral rite participants to avoid visiting livestock farms.”

Meanwhile, the city plans to conduct disinfection work around pig farms and their surroundings by mobilizing five disinfection vehicles including those from the joint control team to prevent ASF contamination from entering farms.
