Encouraging Traditional Market Merchants While Purchasing Various Seafood and Other Foods
First Lady Kim Keon-hee visited the Gijang Market in Busan on the afternoon of the 14th. At the market, she purchased various seafood and seaweed products, encouraging the market vendors who have been struggling due to recent typhoons and heatwaves.

According to the Presidential Office, at Gijang Market, the First Lady chatted with street vendors and tasted and purchased kelp, abalone, and sea urchins directly harvested by haenyeo divers from the waters off Gijang. At the fish center, she bought flounder sashimi that the vendor had just scooped up with a net and prepared on the spot. She also browsed and purchased a variety of foods such as fruits and dried seafood, promoting market revitalization and the consumption of local specialties.

Ahead of Chuseok, she engaged with local residents purchasing ritual items and food. The First Lady expressed hope that, with the government designating October 2nd as a temporary holiday, extending this year’s Chuseok holiday, many people visiting regions like Gijang and their hometowns would bring a warm atmosphere to traditional markets.
