Reducing Cement Usage While Maintaining the Same Strength
Expecting Eco-Friendly Carbon Reduction Effects
Dongyang is embarking on the production of eco-friendly low-carbon ready-mixed concrete.

On the 14th, Dongyang announced that it has established the CarbonCure system capable of producing low-carbon ready-mixed concrete.
CarbonCure technology from Canada is known to enhance the strength of concrete by injecting liquefied carbon dioxide during the ready-mixed concrete production process. When liquefied carbon dioxide is sprayed during the mixing process of ready-mixed concrete, the crystallized carbon dioxide reacts with cement to form calcium carbonate, thereby improving the strength of the concrete.
The advantage is that it can secure the same strength while reducing cement usage by about 4 to 6%. By reducing cement consumption, carbon dioxide emissions can be decreased. The carbon dioxide incorporated into the ready-mixed concrete can be permanently stored inside the concrete, providing an eco-friendly carbon reduction effect.
Since 2021, Eugene Group has been in discussions regarding technology adoption with CarbonCure. In May, it signed a business agreement with its affiliate Dongyang and completed the installation of liquefied carbon dioxide tanks along with the establishment of facilities and infrastructure.
Robert Niven, CEO of CarbonCure, met with Dongyang officials the day before to discuss ways to expand cooperation in the eco-friendly low-carbon concrete business. The meeting was attended by Dongyang CEO Jeong Jin-hak and Resin LaPoint, First Secretary of the Canadian Embassy in Korea, among others.
CEO Niven said, “CarbonCure started this business with consideration of the impact of the concrete industry on climate change,” and added, “Through the partnership with Dongyang, I hope this business will continue to develop to help people suffering from climate change.”
Dongyang plans to further expand its cooperation with CarbonCure. It also intends to strengthen strategic partnerships with domestic construction companies that have a high interest in low-carbon eco-friendly solutions.
A Dongyang official explained, “As the first in the domestic ready-mixed concrete industry to adopt CarbonCure technology, we will play a leading role in creating an eco-friendly construction environment,” and added, “We will continue to strive to secure eco-friendly future technologies and practice ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management.”
