Crios, a subsidiary of Daechang Solution and a specialist in cryogenic systems, announced on the 13th at the hydrogen exhibition H2 Meet held at KINTEX in Ilsan that it showcased the first domestically produced liquefied hydrogen transport tank trailer. It was developed as part of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's 2022 Energy Technology Development Project. It will be used in a demonstration study transporting liquefied hydrogen from the Changwon liquefied hydrogen plant of HiChangwon to hydrogen refueling stations.
Currently, only 3 to 4 companies worldwide have production records for liquefied hydrogen transport tanks, making them essential core equipment for the future hydrogen industry ecosystem. In Korea, a total of 113,000 tons of liquefied hydrogen is expected to be produced by 2025 through SK E&S, Hyosung Group, HiChangwon Co., Ltd., and others, to be supplied to large-scale power generation and hydrogen refueling stations.
Until now, liquefied hydrogen transport and storage tanks could only be manufactured by a few overseas companies due to the difficulty of insulation technology required to store liquefied hydrogen at minus 253 degrees Celsius for extended periods, posing an obstacle to the establishment of the domestic hydrogen ecosystem. However, with Crios successfully mass-producing the domestically made liquefied hydrogen transport tank after various tests and evaluations, it is expected to greatly contribute to the establishment of a full-cycle industrial system from hydrogen production to storage and utilization.
CEO Kim Daesung said on the 13th, “We have launched a liquefied hydrogen transport tank that is essential for safely and economically utilizing hydrogen, a key future energy source,” adding, “Based on the accumulated technology, we will start developing smaller tanks and challenge the hydrogen mobility market based on commercial vehicles.”
