Yongin Severance Hospital announced on the 13th that it has recently introduced the 'da Vinci SP' single-port robotic system, a 4th generation da Vinci robotic surgical device.
Since its opening, Yongin Severance Hospital has been using the da Vinci Xi system, and after about three years since its opening, it plans to expand high-difficulty surgeries and further activate robotic surgery through the introduction of the da Vinci SP.
The da Vinci SP system features a camera composed of two joints and three instruments that extend from a single robotic arm, entering through a single incision site to perform surgery. It is effective for minimally invasive surgeries and surgeries in narrow and deep areas, with smaller scars that lead to faster patient recovery and higher cosmetic satisfaction.
The hospital decided to introduce the da Vinci SP system considering the steadily increasing robotic surgery performance and demand since its opening. Some gynecological surgeries, which currently apply robotic surgery most actively, and laparoscopic surgeries will be converted to the SP system. The hospital plans to increase the use of robotic surgery for single-port surgeries such as oral cavity surgery, hysterectomy, thyroidectomy, and mastectomy.
Park Juhyun, Chair of the Robotic Surgery Committee (Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology), stated, "With the operation of two robotic surgical devices, robotic surgery can be applied to a wider range of diseases across multiple departments. As the convenience and accuracy of surgeons improve and the number of surgical cases applicable to robotics increases, we expect patient satisfaction to improve significantly."
Meanwhile, Yongin Severance Hospital achieved 1,000 robotic surgeries within three years of its opening in March.
