Gumi City in Gyeongbuk is making every effort to transform ‘Jisan Saetgang Ecological Park,’ which features natural blessings such as beautiful cherry blossoms in spring, stunning lotus flowers in summer, and the arrival of the natural monument, the great swan, in winter, into a new healing spot in the city, in response to the rapidly increasing demand for expanded citizen healing spaces.

▲Emerging as Gumi’s representative night view spot with various night lights and attractions

This spring, 250 LED night lights were installed under the cherry trees along the walking trail of Jisan Saetgang Ecological Park, Gumi’s representative cherry blossom spot, providing visitors with a beautiful nightscape where cherry blossoms and lights harmonize, as well as a pleasant walking environment.

Distinctive dandelion and crescent moon lights create a diverse nightscape that has received great positive responses from visitors. Additionally, promotional signboards (LED lights) have been installed along the entrance road, transforming the park into a new healing landmark in Gumi.

▲Unique attractions and photo zones installed … Symbolic sculpture (Great Swan Couple)

To widely promote Jisan Saetgang Ecological Park, one of the nation’s top three natural monument habitats (No. 201-2) for the great swan, a ‘Great Swan Symbolic Sculpture’ has been installed at the main deck plaza, providing a beautiful attraction. Various colored lights have also been installed to further enhance the elegance of the symbolic sculpture.

After administrative procedures such as design preference surveys and urban design advisory reviews, two great swan symbolic sculptures (male H=3.1m, female H=2.6m) made of duralumin were created and newly nested in Jisan Saetgang.

On the 2nd, the unveiling ceremony of the great swan symbolic sculpture was held at the Jisan Saetgang Ecological Culture Festival, introducing the great swan couple for the first time and capturing the attention of many citizens attending the festival.

The city is conducting a naming contest for the great swan couple symbolic sculptures from the 8th to the 21st on the city hall’s Facebook, Instagram, and website bulletin board, targeting citizens. The most preferred and popular name will be selected and later registered as a trademark with the Korean Intellectual Property Office.

▲Expansion of healing and experience spaces and creation of a loess barefoot path to promote citizen health

In response to the recent increase in interest in health and healing and the surge in demand for loess barefoot path experiences, a pilot section (L=250m) of a loess barefoot path will be created along the existing walking trail of Jisan Saetgang Ecological Park by mid-October this year. This will include a loess path, loess grass, loess balls, foot baths, and shoe racks. Next year, the loess barefoot path will be further extended (L=750m) to expand various experience spaces and actively promote citizen health.

Furthermore, by 2025, loess barefoot paths will be expanded regionally within major urban parks such as Hyeonggok Park, Sigok Mulkkot Park, and Indong Majeji to actively respond to the rapidly increasing citizen demand for loess barefoot path experiences and improve the quality of citizen happiness.

▲Additional 150 parking spaces to resolve parking complaints

With the recent surge in visitors to Jisan Saetgang Ecological Park, the city will actively resolve parking complaints by expanding parking lots by March 2024, providing convenience to visitors and enhancing satisfaction, thereby revitalizing the ecological park in the city.

Mayor Kim Jang-ho said, “We plan to further develop Jisan Saetgang Ecological Park, a beloved urban rest and leisure space for citizens, into a representative premium park in the Gumi area that attracts many tourists nationwide and is frequently visited by citizens by making it more attractive and distinctive.”
