Wine flows like a river on the street... A Portuguese village covered in 'dark red liquid'

Red Wine Tank Bursts at Portuguese Brewery
Brewery Pledges "Best Efforts for Quick Resolution"

At a winery in Portugal, two tanks containing red wine suddenly burst, causing the village streets to be flooded with wine.

According to the New York Post and others on the 11th (local time), the day before in the small coastal village of S?o Louren?o do Bairro in Portugal, a dark red liquid began flowing like a river.

The 'dark red liquid' in question was none other than red wine. Two tanks holding 2.2 million liters of red wine at a nearby winery burst, spilling the wine outside the winery. The amount of spilled red wine was said to be enough to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

Videos capturing the scene show the nearby roads stained entirely red by the red wine, and some residents appeared bewildered as they watched the dark red river flow.

As an enormous amount of red wine flowed out, the local government eventually issued an environmental alert. Additionally, as the risk of the spilled wine flowing into the nearby Sertima River increased, the fire department worked to change the flow direction of the wine to prevent the river from being contaminated.

Fortunately, the fire department succeeded in diverting the wine toward a field far from the river. The river was not polluted.

No one was injured in the incident, but nearby homes and crops suffered significant damage. The basements of homes near the winery were flooded with wine.

The winery issued a statement apologizing. The winery said, "We will take full responsibility for the village cleanup and damage costs and have formed a team to address this immediately," adding, "We will do our best to resolve this situation as quickly as possible."
