Over 1,800 People Gather for a Grand Eoullim Festival Celebration
Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced that it will hold the "2023 Jeollanam-do Disabled Sports Festival" for two days from the 14th to the 15th at Palma Stadium.
Under the theme of "Ecological Capital, First-Class Suncheon, an Exciting Sports Festival Together," the event is sponsored by Jeollanam-do and Suncheon City, hosted by the Jeonnam Disabled Sports Association, and organized by the Jeonnam Sports for All Festival Organizing Committee along with various sports organizations. Approximately 1,800 athletes from 22 cities and counties in Jeonnam will participate.
Starting with the opening ceremony at 10:30 AM on the 14th at Palma Gymnasium, competitions in badminton, boccia, soccer, table tennis, lawn bowls, athletics, baduk, tug of war, jump rope, and darts will be held at Palma Stadium until the 15th. Additionally, gateball and sitting volleyball will take place at Sangsa General Gymnasium, with a total of 12 events where friendly competition will be held.
At the event site, the Jeonnam Smoking Cessation Support Center will provide smoking cessation counseling, and the Suncheon City Family Welfare Division along with the Comprehensive Welfare Center for the Disabled will offer free rental and repair services for assistive devices. Emergency medical technicians will be stationed at each venue to ensure the safe progress of the event.
In particular, to respond to social crime issues such as abnormal motive crimes, security personnel have been increased to pay close attention to the safety of athletes and participants.
Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu of Suncheon said, "I hope this festival will be an opportunity to inspire independence among people with disabilities through sports activities and help disabled and non-disabled people come together." He added, "I hope many spectators visit during the opening ceremony and throughout the event to cheer for the athletes, and also visit the Garden Expo site where millions of chrysanthemums bloom to create beautiful autumn garden memories."
