Namwon-si, 4 Autonomous RIS Regional Innovation Projects Selected by Jeonbuk Province

Namwon City (Mayor Choi Kyung-sik) announced on the 12th that it applied for four projects in the Jeonbuk Province RIS (Local Government-University Cooperation-Based Regional Innovation Project) regional innovation autonomous task project contest and all were selected, securing 860 million KRW.

This contest was promoted to discover tasks that contribute to revitalizing local industries and solving current issues in the province by utilizing human and material resources from universities, as Jeonbuk Province was selected as a pilot area for RISE (Regional Innovation-Centered University Support System), allowing autonomous tasks within 15% of the RIS project budget to be pursued according to local circumstances.

The city plans to focus its capabilities on revitalizing local industries and solving regional issues by cooperating with the three universities that formed consortia for each project.

Mayor Choi Kyung-sik said, “The four projects selected in this RIS contest are essential tasks for fostering strategic local industries and solving current issues. Since the continuation of support, incentives, and penalties for next year will be decided based on this year’s project performance evaluation, we will cooperate with the universities in the consortium and respond organically.”
