Emergency Support for Visits to Jjokbangchon and Goryeoin Village
Chonnam National University Hospital (Director Ahn Young-geun) has launched emergency support efforts for residents of the Gwangju Dong-gu jjokbangchon (tiny room village) and Korean ethnic war refugees from Ukraine living in Gwangsan-gu.
On the 12th, according to Chonnam National University Hospital, Shin Junho, Deputy Director of Public Affairs, and Kim Sang-yoon, Head of the Public Health Medical Project Team, visited the Dong-gu Daein-dong jjokbangchon base center the previous morning and delivered two refrigerators.
The Dong-gu jjokbangchon base center is carrying out support projects such as emergency supplies and self-sufficiency assistance to help jjokbang residents living alone in deteriorated motels and inns, due to high rent burdens and family disintegration, to lead a dignified life.
Also, at 2 p.m. on the same day, Deputy Director Shin and others visited the Korean Village in Gwangsan-gu, located on Sanjeonggongwon-ro, and delivered 325 kg of rice. Together with the Gwangju Regional Problem Solving Platform, this was provided as part of the ‘Safety Net Support Project for Vulnerable Groups’ in the form of designated emergency funds to the jjokbangchon base center and Korean ethnic war refugees from Ukraine.
The Gwangju Korean Village is currently facing a blind spot in terms of food, clothing, shelter, and medical welfare as the number of Korean ethnic compatriots urgently fleeing to Korea due to the Ukraine-Russia war has increased.
Shin Junho, Deputy Director of Public Affairs, said, “I believe that finding places most in need of help and sharing love is also the role of a national university hospital as a regional hub,” adding, “Chonnam National University Hospital will continue to carry out various support activities with a sense of community solidarity for residents of jjokbangchon and the Korean Village, as well as marginalized groups in the local community.”
