Korea Island Promotion Agency Selects 5 Best Islands to Visit in Autumn

Five islands ideal for traveling this fall have been announced.


The Korea Island Development Institute (KIDI, President Oh Dong-ho), together with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, announced on the 12th that they have selected five places?Gyodongdo (Ganghwa-gun, Incheon), Daebudo (Ansan-si, Gyeonggi), Geumodo (Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do), Jodo and Hodo (Namhae-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do), and Chujado (Jeju-si)?as “Autumn Islands You Want to Visit” (hereinafter Autumn Islands).

Gyodongdo (Ganghwa-gun, Incheon), which offers views of the West Sea, has special festivals planned for the autumn season.


Gyodongdo hosts the DMZ Peace iLand Music Festival and the Hwage Garden Festival, allowing visitors to enjoy not only sightseeing but also cultural performances that capture the autumn atmosphere.


Daebudo (Ansan-si, Gyeonggi), an island with beautiful sunsets, is perfect for experiencing and viewing mudflats during the cool autumn season.


At Daebudo, visitors can enjoy mudflat experiences at scenic Bangameori Beach and the fishing village experience village operated by the local fishermen’s association. Additionally, during low tide, the sea road at Tando Port opens, offering views of surrounding islands and expansive mudflats.


Geumodo (Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do), where you can admire coastal rock cliffs, is an island ideal for backpacking and hiking in autumn.


Along the coast, there are five unique courses of the Geumodo Bireong-gil Trail (Courses 1 to 5), and the Ando Goose Camping Site, created by repurposing a closed school, is great for trekking or backpacking.


Jodo and Hodo (Namhae-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do), with picturesque coastlines and blue seas, are islands perfect for walking with family and friends.


Each island has walking trails along the coastline where visitors can enjoy beautiful scenery within about an hour. These places are recommended for tourists seeking a quiet and relaxing break.


Chujado (Jeju-si), which boasts beautiful coasts and diverse fishery resources, offers various activities such as trekking, marine leisure, and seasonal seafood festivals.

The Jeju Olle Trail courses, including the “Navaron Sky Road,” are trekking hotspots where visitors can enjoy spectacular coastal views. Also, the “Chujado Chamgulbi Festival” is held in autumn, providing opportunities to experience local specialties.


Travel information about the five islands selected as Autumn Islands can be found on the website “Korea Tourism Organization’s Korea Travel Easy.”


Additionally, to increase interest in the islands and encourage visits to the Autumn Islands, an event open to anyone visiting the islands will be held, offering prizes through a lottery. Detailed information about the event will be provided via the Korea Island Development Institute’s Instagram and Facebook (What.Seom) pages.


Oh Dong-ho, President of the Korea Island Development Institute, said, “Together with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, we recommend five domestic islands that are great to visit in autumn,” adding, “We hope to widely promote the beautiful and excellent tourism resources of the islands and ultimately contribute to income generation for island residents.”
