Gwangju Seobu Fire Station announced on the 12th that it conducted fire safety inspections on four fire-vulnerable facilities, including traditional markets and multi-use facilities in Seo-gu.
This fire safety inspection was carried out in anticipation of an increase in returning visitors and travelers during the six-day long holiday, as there is a high risk of significant casualties if a fire occurs in facilities used by an unspecified large number of people. The inspection aimed to ensure thorough fire prevention and safety checks.
In particular, traditional markets have a large number of unspecified transient populations and are characterized by small-scale stores densely packed in narrow alleys, which can lead to significant human and property damage in the event of a fire. Therefore, more thorough fire prevention and safety inspections are necessary.
Accordingly, Seobu Fire Station conducted joint inspections with related agencies in the gas and electricity sectors and fire safety inspectors, focusing on fire facilities, electricity, gas, and construction fields in traditional markets within the jurisdiction.
The fire safety inspection items included ▲checking for violations such as power shutdowns and closures of fire facilities ▲confirming the closure or locking of emergency exits and the presence of obstacles in evacuation stairs and passageways ▲verifying the proper maintenance of fire facilities and evacuation fire prevention facilities.
A fire official stated, "Looking at the fire occurrence trends during the Chuseok holiday period, the fire incidence rate was high in multi-use facilities and traditional markets with large transient populations," and added, "We ask all related parties to be cautious when handling fire sources to ensure that all citizens can have a happy holiday."
