Kakao Enterprise is stepping up to support the creation of a cloud industry ecosystem in Mongolia through a public-private partnership project.
On the 12th, Kakao Enterprise announced that it signed a business agreement with KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) for the ‘KOICA Platform ESG Initiative’ and will support the future establishment of Mongolia’s cloud industry ecosystem through technical exchanges and business cooperation with cloud experts from the National University of Science and Technology of Mongolia.
The KOICA Platform ESG Initiative is a new public-private development cooperation model linking ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It aims to build an organic cooperative relationship for the economic, environmental, and social development of developing countries and to promote effective project implementation and impact creation.
Based on its capabilities in building and operating multi- and hybrid-cloud infrastructure environments and its commercialization experience, Kakao Enterprise plans to engage in discussions over the next three years starting in 2024 to collaborate on ▲cloud talent development and developer community building ▲joint development of Mongolia’s edge cloud platform ▲partnership for establishing Mongolia’s national cloud center.
Starting next year, through collaboration with the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, a six-month online training program will be conducted to nurture cloud talent, selecting outstanding individuals to provide opportunities to participate in future internship programs. Additionally, a Korea-Mongolia developer community will be established to facilitate smooth exchanges of ideas and contribute to the development of the developer ecosystem.
In the future, through collaboration between cloud experts from Korea and Mongolia, plans are underway to jointly develop an edge cloud platform suitable at the national and regional levels. An edge cloud platform refers to a method of processing vast amounts of data in real time near the data source, at the edge, rather than centralized processing. This approach enables faster data processing, reduces the bandwidth required for data transmission, improves network efficiency, and thus lowers costs.
Kakao Enterprise plans to support the acceleration of Mongolia’s digital transformation by establishing a virtuous cycle system that expands into ▲talent development ▲joint technology development ▲stable operation ▲industry-specific specialized clouds within Mongolia. Through the KOICA Platform ESG Initiative, a strong partnership between the two countries will be built to discuss cloud transition methodologies and share know-how on cloud architecture design and operation.
Lee Kyung-jin, CEO of Kakao Enterprise, stated, “By nurturing Mongolian cloud experts and building an edge cloud platform, we will contribute to strengthening Mongolia’s IT competitiveness and actively participate in the KOICA Platform ESG Initiative as a cloud service provider (CSP) to foster the cloud ecosystem.”
