North Korean State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong-un, who departed for Russia on a special train for the North Korea-Russia summit, arrived at Hasan Station, a border area between Russia and North Korea, according to Japanese media reports. Kim was accompanied by key officials, including Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui, as he headed to Russia.
On the 12th, Japan's private broadcasting network JNN cited a Russian regional government official, reporting that Kim arrived at Hasan Station, located in the border area between Russia and North Korea. Hasan Station was the place where Kim disembarked and was welcomed during his visit to Russia for the 2019 North Korea-Russia summit. JNN added, "A welcoming ceremony for Kim Jong-un was held at Hasan Station."
North Korea's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that Kim departed Pyongyang on the afternoon of the 10th by special train to visit Russia, stating that "key officials from the Party, government, and military institutions will accompany him."
According to photos released by the agency, Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui, Vice Chairman of the Party Central Military Commission Ri Pyong-chol, Director of the Party Military Guidance Department Pak Jong-chon, and Party Secretaries O Su-yong and Pak Tae-sung appear to be accompanying Kim Jong-un on his visit to Russia.
Kim is expected to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Although the exact schedule and location of the summit have not yet been disclosed, it is widely anticipated that the meeting will take place on the 13th, when the Eastern Economic Forum, which opened in Vladivostok on the 10th, concludes, or shortly thereafter.
The Kremlin announced that Kim Jong-un and President Putin will discuss bilateral relations during their talks and will also hold an official dinner. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated the day before the summit, "It is expected that there will be one-on-one talks attended only by interpreters, as well as formal meetings including the delegations."
