"Political Hunger Strike Taking Democratic Party Lawmakers Hostage"
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, has been on a hunger strike for the 13th day, while Ahn Cheol-soo, a member of the People Power Party, urged him to stop, saying, "Leader Lee is conducting a political hunger strike by holding Democratic Party lawmakers hostage."
On the 12th, Ahn said on his social media (SNS), "Leader Lee should stop the hunger strike appealing for non-arrest solely to avoid judicial risks."
He stated, "The public is aware of Leader Lee's criminal charges. These are heinous crimes committed in my constituency (Bundang-gap). He is also a suspect in the Daejang-dong and Baekhyeon-dong gates, the largest corruption scandals since the founding of Korea, as well as illegal remittances to North Korea." He criticized, "However, Leader Lee continues his political rampage by using his position as party leader and lawmaker to incite political strife through dividing the people, nullify prosecution summons, and undermine the judiciary."
He added, "To restore the honor of Bundang-gap, it is the duty of politicians for Leader Lee and me to stake our political lives and engage in a direct confrontation. If he returns after receiving a fair judgment from the judiciary, then Leader Lee and I will risk our political lives to have a direct showdown in Bundang-gap before the people, to restore the honor of Bundang-gap, which has been tarnished by various special privilege corruption scandals including Daejang-dong and Baekhyeon-dong."
